Winter cleaning

There’s something about coming home from Christmas traveling that makes me want to start fresh and clean house! Maybe it’s the living out of a suitcase and among the clutter of new gifts, the week of rest from the usual routine, or simply the start of a new year…or maybe a combination of everything. But the first of January always has me clearing out closets and cabinets (sometimes simply to make room for new things!), rearranging, redecorating, and reorganizing.
Though I still get an itch to do the same in the spring and fall when the pleasant weather picks up my mood, this year I’m making an effort to really take advantage of this “cleaning energy”, to get our home ready for the “cocooning” during the cold days ahead, and maybe shake off a little of the gloom that comes in January and February.
So far I’ve cleaned out our art cabinet, organized our desk and paperwork that had spread to our dining room table, and started organizing closets. We also have a little decorating planned…yeah!
The winter can be a really hard time for me, and I know for many others too, but these projects actually have me looking forward to all the inside-time ahead.
Anyone else doing a little winter cleaning?

I am totally in the “winter cleaning” mood. Once the Christmas decorations came down, I felt the need to clean and organize. I have cleaned out the pantry, the guest room, several drawers and a closet. Today, I am cleaning my bathroom from top to bottom and organizing the drawers tomorrow.

Yes! We are cleaning and organizing everything. We moved here 4 years ago and its time to goo through it all. We finally purchased a file cabinet and that is huge for us. Its such a relief to see organization taking place. Good luck with yours!
Yep. I am determined to finish up my closet tonight. It’s been a several day process and I have three trashbags filled with things I know I’m never going to wear again to take to Goodwill. It feels good to let go of things though. Funny story: Some of the things I’m getting rid of are clothes we bought back in Shawnee at one of those Wall’s sales where everything was Gap or Old Navy, but with the tags ripped. Do you remember shopping there? Jen, you too!?
Ahh, Wall’s. Yes Darrell and I still have some of the clothes from Wall’s. Funny though I still have some clothes pre-Wall’s. Think it’s time to clean out my closet? Maybe I’ll start with the dishes sitting in my sink.
